I swear to thee, by Cupid's strongest bow, By his best arrow with the golden head, By the simplicity of Venus' doves, By that which knitteth souls and prospers loves ...
... By all the vows that ever men have broke - In number more than ever women spoke - In that same place thou hast appointed me Tomorrow truly will I meet with thee. 1.1.169-172, 175-178
When a quartet of bickering young lovers find themselves in a magical forest after fleeing the constraints of Athenian life, the fairy king Oberon is concerned to see that the natrual state of things is slipping out of balance. Frustrated also by his feud with the fairy queen Titania, Oberon enlists the mischevious puck Robin Goodfellow to minister a special love-potion which will re-direct the wyaward passions, and restore order to the lives of lovers and fairies alike.
Elsewhere in the forest, a motley group of artisans are unwittingly caught up in Oberon's machinations. No sooner has his plan begun than the fairy king is faced with an ever more confusing web to untangle ...
